Strangequarters: history

Strangequarters re-emerged in 2016 when singer-songwriter Steve Munro once again joined forces with former band-mate and instrumentalist Sean O'Dell to write and record some new songs for a themed album. Strangequarters were first seen and heard during the mid 1980s, having evolved from their earlier incarnation, the band Vanishing Point. At this time the band, including the two current members, were writing and performing their own material very much in the indie style of the day. A four track EP recorded at Diploma Studios was favorably reviewed by critics in the music press and went on to achieve moderately good sales and airplay.

The band played at numerous venues and festivals during that period including the 'Essex for Africa' benefit festival and a Musicians Union benefit at Colchester Arts Centre. In addition to playing the band circuit of music venues,  pubs and clubs, Strangequarters had a regular, well-supported gig at the Kings Arms, Saint Osyth.

Much later, in the new millenium, some former members of Strangequarters came together again to form the Mined, a band that was to similarly form a platform for new songwriting. the Mined played a number of gigs around north-Essex before winding up around 2012. However, it would not be long before  discussions about new material and the opportunities afforded by the evolution of recording technology meant that Strangequarters would re-emerge in 2016 to re-interpret a couple of their earlier songs and to complement them with new, contemporary material.
